Chipotle is Giving Away Guac
Chipotle has been the subject of several health scares recently, some of which have been back-to-back.
It can be difficult to bounce back from that sort of negative PR, since tarnished trust and credibility can be irreparable for a brand. Though these sorts of incidents can happen at any dining establishment, it can take time to repair customer perception, and time is money, which is necessary to stay in business.
How does Chipotle want to expedite this process? By reminding you how delicious their guacamole is. As any Chipotle connoisseur knows, it’s almost impossible to not pay the extra $1.80 for some sweet avocado goodness. The good people at Chipotle are tapping into this insight and offering an interactive challenge in exchange for a coupon. If you can spot the differences between 3 sets of matching images at www.guachunter.com, they will give you a free order of chips and guac, while also educating you about the origins of the avocado, reminding you how organic and healthy they are.
Why does this work? It’s clever and engaging, it subtly speaks to the wholesomeness of their food by focusing on the origins of the avocado (rather than offering a free burrito… which we’re all still a little leery on), and invites us to come back and enjoy some innocent guac, on them. Spoiler alert, you’ll get the free snack even if you “mashively” fail the activity.
Smart move, Chipotle. Way to play on our weaknesses. BRB… there’s an avocado calling our name.
